How will AI Impact your ERP team?

The AI Effect on ERP

AI is everywhere, it’s all anyone is talking about.

AI could be the catalyst behind huge scientific & medical discoveries. Equally, the potential risks for humanity and society in general are being widely debated. Whilst we don't think Co-Pilot is going to go all Skynet on us anytime soon, the way ERPs operate and are implemented will definitely change, and change fast.

So, as the person responsible for keeping your company ERP system in line with all of these advancements, it falls on you to keep up and learn at the same rate.

We’re here to help!

ERP systems are by definition large, complicated systems and each use-case brings its own set of challenges. Our recent Live Series round-table event hosted by Frankie Baron, dives into the ERP use cases for AI in 2025.

Our takeaways from this conversation are that there is three main roadblocks for 2025 when it comes to implementing new technology.

1.      Change Management Processes are going to need to change:

AI is changing the speed at which updates, innovation and technical upgrades need to happen in order to keep in line with competition. If you are taking forever to make these upgrades you will be left behind.

2.      Larger companies with fully customised ERP systems will struggle to keep up without the use of AI:

It already requires a near greenfield approach for such complex systems to be implemented, without the use of AI and better communication between departments you wont be able to keep up.

3.      Lack of shared knowledge in the ERP team:

If, like most teams out there you have based your team around individual knowledge of your consultants in Finance, Supply chain, Warehousing etc. you may be missing vital aspects in the streamlining of the overall ERP. AI products with GPT models can help smooth out the knowledge and communication gaps between your departments, saving time, money and a massive headache for the project managers in the team.

It might seem like you have your work cut out for you, and you probably do! However, there is solutions and advice out there for overcoming these challenges.

We stopped by Frankie Baron's desk, our expert recruiter for D365 to get his thoughts on AI for ERP. This is what he had to say:

“AI presents several major questions for ERP: What is it? How can we use it? What impact will it have?

We’re already witnessing significant advancements. Tools like Co-Pilot are accelerating development speed, while Analytical AI is unlocking powerful insights across multiple business domains—whether by identifying new revenue streams or mitigating supply chain risks.

Looking ahead, ERP market share will likely be determined by how quickly and effectively companies can integrate AI. We’re already seeing this trend with Microsoft’s Business Central Online, which has grown its user base by 250% in the last year, and Infor CloudSuite, which has been widely adopted by major manufacturing brands like Ferrari and Triumph.

AI is set to impact everything—from the speed and ease of ERP implementation to the number of staff required for projects. However, as this latest AI revolution is still in its infancy, the full scale of its impact remains to be seen.

The answers to these questions are still unfolding, but one thing is certain: The future of ERP with AI is going to be an exciting ride!”
